# Overhear mentions

Overhear scans X, Reddit, LinkedIn, YouTube, Hacker News and the web for a project's keywords. Claude labels each mention with a category, a sentiment and an urgency. This workflow helps the user act on those mentions and keep the keyword list lean.

## Start with the project

Call `list_projects` first. It returns each project's `description`, `domain`, keywords (with `competitor`, sources and how often they are scanned) and custom categories. Use those ids for every other call. If the user has several projects and hasn't named one, ask which.

## Triage

1. **Urgent first.** Call `list_mentions` with `urgency: "high"`, then `"medium"`. High means an outage, a false claim spreading, an angry customer or a ready buyer with an audience. Medium means a reply would be worth it today. Low needs no action.
2. **Read the post, not just the label.** Each result has `text`, `title`, `url`, `author`, `posted_at`, `engagement`, `category`, `sentiment` and `urgency`. Quote the post when you summarize it. Use `posted_at` for timing; an old thread is not a live fire.
3. **Group by what to do:**
   - `bug`, `complaint`: the team may need to fix or answer something.
   - `misinformation`: note what is wrong (pricing, features) and the correct facts, but only facts the user or the project's site confirms.
   - `question`, `lead`: a reply can help or win a customer.
   - `praise`: a testimonial candidate.
   - `competitor`: a rival's own page or comparison; context, not a buyer.
4. **Present a short list**: author, source, date, one-line gist, quote and link, grouped as above. Say how many low-urgency mentions you skipped.

Filter with `source` (`x`, `reddit`, `linkedin`, `youtube`, `web`) or `category` (the built-ins above, or a custom category id). `limit` defaults to 50, max 150.

## Fix wrong calls

- **Unrelated.** If a post uses the keyword for something else (another company, a common word), call `set_mention_relevance` with `relevant: false`. To check what Overhear already hid, call `list_mentions` with `unrelated: true`; restore a wrongly hidden post with `relevant: true`. The user's choice always overrides Claude's.
- **Many unrelated hits** usually mean a vague project description or an ambiguous keyword. Suggest a sharper description (edited on the project's **Settings** tab) or a more specific keyword. Don't remove keywords without asking.
- **Own accounts** showing up: suggest adding them to **Ignored authors** on the **Settings** tab. There is no MCP tool for this.

## Testimonials

Suggest `praise` mentions that name the product and say something specific. Generic "looks cool" posts make weak testimonials. Call `save_testimonial` with `saved: true` only for the ones the user picks, or all of them if they asked for that. `list_mentions` with `saved: true` lists what's saved.

## Replies

`draft_reply` returns editable text in the team's voice, with a tracked link once if the project has a domain. It posts nothing. Show the draft with the post's link. Never claim a reply was sent. Call `mark_replied` only when the user says they posted it.

Don't draft replies to competitor pages, spam or posts where a reply from the company would look out of place. Say so instead.

## Keywords and cost

Each keyword is a recurring scan of every source it searches, so every added keyword costs money.

- Before `add_keyword`, check the project's existing keywords for duplicates and near-duplicates.
- Track the names people actually write, not every spelling. Ambiguous names (common words, names shared with other products) bring noise; prefer a more specific phrase.
- Brand keywords are scanned every hour. Use `competitor: true` for a rival's name; those are scanned every 6 hours. The cadence is fixed: LinkedIn is searched at most every 6 hours, YouTube, Hacker News and the web daily.
- Use `sources` (or `set_keyword_sources` later) to drop sources that only bring noise for a keyword.
- Add, retime or remove keywords only when the user asks. A request for ideas allows suggestions, not new recurring scans. `remove_keyword` also deletes that keyword's mentions; confirm first.
- Custom categories (`add_category`, up to 10) help when the user keeps asking for the same slice, for example "Pricing: talks about what it costs". They only affect new mentions.

## Don't

- Don't invent facts about the product when correcting misinformation or drafting replies.
- Don't count copies of one post as separate signals.
- Don't promise features Overhear lacks: it doesn't post replies, expand comment threads or enrich authors.
