Best Reddit monitoring tools in 2026

We make Overhear, one of the tools on this list, so read this with that in mind. Most lists on this topic are written by a vendor that puts itself first. We put ourselves fourth, because this list is about Reddit and Overhear searches Reddit posts but not comments.

The short version:

  • Free, for personal use: F5Bot.
  • Alerts for a business, with precise filters: Syften.
  • Cheap paid alerts that also reach X and LinkedIn: KWatch.
  • Paying per scan across six sources, with each post sorted, no subscription: Overhear.
  • A team that wants AI filtering across many platforms: Octolens.
  • Reddit lead generation with a reply workflow: Subreddit Signals.
  • PR reports and analytics: Brand24, or Awario on a smaller budget.

How we ranked them

The order is for a founder or small team that mostly cares about Reddit: does it catch the post or comment, how soon, how much noise comes with it, and what does a useful setup cost. A PR agency would order this differently, and we say where.

We read every pricing page on 2026-11-04 and list prices in USD. Plans change, so check before you buy. The quotes come from public Reddit, Hacker News and X posts, each one linked, and we say when the author sells something competing.

Comparison

Tool Best for Price (USD, checked 2026-11-04) Main drawback
F5Bot Free Reddit and Hacker News alerts Free; $12.99 Silver; $49.99 Gold a month Free plan is 5 keywords, personal use, alerts up to 2 hours late
Syften Precise alerts for a business $29.95, $49.95 or $119.95 a month AI filtering starts at $49.95; X costs $40 more
KWatch Cheap real-time alerts Free; $19, $79 or $199 a month Slack and webhooks start at $79
Overhear Paying per scan across six sources From $10 prepaid; Reddit hourly is $1.20 a month No Reddit comments, hourly at best
Octolens Teams that want AI filtering $159 or $499 a month, billed yearly $159 entry price, and no monthly billing on the page
Subreddit Signals Reddit lead generation $29 or $59 a month Starter watches 10 subreddits, not all of Reddit
Brand24 Analytics and PR reporting $249 to $699 a month, or $199 to $599 billed yearly Cheapest plan updates every 12 hours
Awario Broad listening on a budget $49 to $399 a month, or $29 to $249 billed yearly CSV export needs Pro at $89 or more

1. F5Bot

Best for: knowing when a word appears on Reddit, Hacker News or Lobsters. The free plan suits personal projects; a business needs Gold.

Price: free for personal use. Silver is $12.99 a month and is for individuals and non-commercial use. Gold, the first plan meant for businesses, is $49.99 a month. Platinum is $214.99.

Drawback: the free plan has 5 keywords and alerts can arrive up to 2 hours late. It watches three sites, and it matches words, so a common brand name fills your inbox.

F5Bot has run since 2017 and covers posts and comments in every subreddit. Gold adds AI filtering, Slack and Discord. Its creator is plain about how it works:

"It matches things pretty literally, but you can add a hundred keywords or phrases if you want."

That is F5Bot's creator on r/SaaS in 2024. Users work around it by narrowing their phrases:

"Generic ones like "is there a tool that" flood F5Bot with every topic, so I pair the pain with my topic."

That one is from X in October 2026. Most of what people say about it is simply fond:

"I use f5bot.com, which monitors HN, Reddit, and Lobsters. (I have no connection to f5bot except being a happy user.)"

From Hacker News in November 2025.

2. Syften

Best for: a business that wants fast alerts from Reddit and other communities, with control over what triggers them.

Price: Entry is $29.95 a month with 3 community filters and 100 results a day. Standard is $49.95 with 20 filters, AI filtering and Slack. PRO is $119.95 with 100 filters, MCP and webhooks. There is a 14-day trial with no card.

Drawback: the cheapest plan has no AI filtering or Slack, and X (+$40) and YouTube (+$20) are paid add-ons on Standard.

Syften reaches well beyond social networks: Reddit, Hacker News, Indie Hackers, GitHub, Stack Exchange, forums, podcasts and Slack communities. One user on r/sideprojects, a small SaaS piping alerts into Slack:

"It’s not something I’m checking daily in a dashboard, more like a background signal that taps me on the shoulder when something relevant pops up."

Read the comment. The complaint we found is noise, though it comes from someone who built a competing tool, so weigh it accordingly:

"Syften catches stuff but throws a lot of noise at you."

3. KWatch

Best for: the lowest price for near real-time alerts that reach past Reddit.

Price: the free plan has 2 Reddit and 2 Hacker News keywords. Essential is $19 a month, Business $79, Enterprise $199.

Drawback: the cheap plan is cheap because other sources are rationed. Essential gives 20 Reddit keywords but only 2 on X and 1 on LinkedIn, and Slack, webhooks and team seats start at $79.

KWatch says alerts arrive within seconds, and it matches Reddit posts and comments. Its AI analyses sentiment, it does not sort posts by what to do about them. A Hacker News user in 2024 put it next to F5Bot:

"For my SaaS I use https://kwatch.io which is equivalent to F5bot. The free plan is less generous than F5Bot, but on the paid plans you can monitor Twitter, Reddit, Quora..."

4. Overhear

Best for: a small team that hears about its product in more places than Reddit, wants each post sorted, and would rather pay per scan than per month.

Price: prepaid credits from $10, no subscription, and credits never expire. New accounts get 1,000 free.

  • One keyword on Reddit only, every hour: about 720 credits a month, $1.20 at the $10 pack rate.
  • One keyword on Reddit and Hacker News, every hour: about 1440 credits a month, $2.40 at the $10 pack rate.
  • One brand keyword on all six sources at the default pace: about 2640 credits a month, $4.40 at the $10 pack rate.

Drawback: Overhear searches Reddit posts, not comments, so a mention deep in a thread is missed. Scans run hourly at best, so it is slower than F5Bot's paid plans (5 minutes or less), Syften or KWatch. You cannot watch a subreddit, and there is no built-in Slack alert, only webhooks you wire up yourself.

That is why it sits fourth here. What it does differently: it also covers X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Hacker News and the web, Claude sorts each post into question, complaint, bug, praise, misinformation or competitor, and it learns from your Related and Not related clicks. It drafts a reply for you to edit, and it finds leads by the problem they describe. We are new, so we have no independent quotes to show you. The Reddit monitoring page has the details.

5. Octolens

Best for: a marketing or developer relations team that wants one feed across many platforms with AI relevance scoring, plus an API and MCP server on every plan.

Price: Pro is $159 a month billed yearly, with 10 keywords, 15,000 mentions and hourly refresh. Scale is $499 billed yearly, with 40 keywords, real-time refresh and podcasts, news and newsletters. There is a 7-day trial with no card.

Drawback: the price, if Reddit is the main thing you watch. Mentions over quota are billed at $0.01 to $0.013 each unless you cap them.

Octolens covers Reddit, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, Hacker News, GitHub and review sites. A 30-day test on r/Stateshift was warm about Reddit and honest about the rest:

"The honest catch is that it surfaces a lot, and a fair amount of it you won't care about."

6. Subreddit Signals

Best for: finding buyers on Reddit when you already know the subreddits they use. It is one of the tools GummySearch's founder recommends.

Price: Starter is $29 a month ($24 billed yearly), Pro is $59 ($49.17 billed yearly). The 14-day trial needs a card.

Drawback: Starter covers one brand and up to 10 subreddits, with 15 lead tokens a week. There is no free plan.

7. Brand24

Best for: PR teams and agencies that need reports, reach and sentiment across social, news, blogs and podcasts. For them it would rank higher on this list.

Price: Individual is $249 a month ($199 billed yearly), Team $349 ($299), Pro $499 ($399), Business $699 ($599). The trial is 14 days.

Drawback: Individual has 3 keywords, 2,000 mentions a month and updates every 12 hours, which is too slow to join a Reddit thread. Hourly updates need Team.

It is built for reach and reporting more than for finding a person to answer. One agency trying it for buyer research wrote on r/AskMarketing:

"Whenever we try to track a deliverable plus a friction word (like "product launch" + bottleneck), 99% of our results are just people selling stuff"

8. Awario

Best for: broad social listening at a lower price than Brand24, with unlimited keywords inside each topic and Boolean search.

Price: Starter is $49 a month ($29 billed yearly), Pro $149 ($89), Enterprise $399 ($249). There is a free trial.

Drawback: Starter has one user, 3 topics and no CSV export, according to its pricing FAQ. Like Brand24, it is a listening dashboard, not a Reddit tool. We found no recent user comment about its Reddit results worth quoting, so we have none here.

What happened to GummySearch

GummySearch closed to new users on 2025-11-30, saying it was shutting down "to comply with Reddit's API policies, which forbid commercial applications." Lifetime deal holders have access until 2026-11-30.

It was a research tool more than an alert tool, so no single product replaces it. Its founder keeps a list of alternatives and notes that some are affiliate links. For leads, see Subreddit Signals above. For research into pain points, PainOnSocial is $16 a month for 20 scans, or $41 for 300. RedReach is often named too, but its pricing page did not load for us, so we are not quoting a price.

Which one to pick

For a personal project, start with F5Bot's free plan for a week. For a business, the free plan is off limits, so use Syften's 14-day trial or Overhear's free credits instead. Either way you see how much is said about your words. Then:

  • If the volume is fine and alerts are all you need, pay for F5Bot Gold or Syften.
  • If most of the alerts are noise, you need filtering: Syften Standard, Octolens, or Overhear.
  • If your customers also talk on X, LinkedIn or YouTube, look at KWatch, Octolens or Overhear.
  • If you want reports for a client, look at Brand24 or Awario.

And whichever you choose, a tool only finds the thread. Someone still has to reply, soon, and without selling.
