Cookie Policy

Effective Date: [Last Updated: October 17, 2026] Applies to: https://overhear.dev

1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Hauke Jung ("we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on Overhear (the "Service").

The short version: one cookie keeps you signed in, a second one remembers your language only if you pick one, and the feedback widget remembers what you typed into it. We run no analytics, advertising or marketing trackers. That is why you see no cookie banner — there is no non-essential storage to ask you about.

This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They may be:

  • Session cookies – deleted automatically when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies – stored until they expire or are deleted manually.
  • First-party cookies – set by our website.
  • Third-party cookies – set by external services integrated into our website.

3. What We Actually Store

Name Type Purpose Consent Required Lifetime
Session cookie Strictly necessary, first-party, signed Keeps you signed in and links your browser to your server-side session. No Expires after 7 days of inactivity
oxidt_locale First-party, set only on your request Remembers the language you chose in the footer. No 1 year
theme Not a cookie — browser local storage Remembers your light/dark preference so the page does not flash the wrong theme on load. Read and written entirely in your browser. No Until you clear site data

| seggwat_* | Not a cookie — browser local storage, set by the feedback widget | Remembers the email address you entered and unsent drafts, so you don't type them again. | No | Until you send the feedback, sign out or clear site data |

The theme value is listed for completeness because §25 TDDDG covers storage on your device generally, not only cookies. It is never transmitted to our servers and contains nothing but the strings light or dark.

We set no analytics, advertising, personalization or marketing cookies of any kind.

4. Third-Party Services

Service Purpose Location Policy
SeggWat Feedback widget, roadmap voting and changelog Operated by us Covered by our Privacy Policy

The feedback widget's script is loaded from seggwat.com and sets no cookies. No payment provider, analytics vendor or CDN is embedded in the Service.

AI assistants connected over MCP authenticate with an API key, not a cookie.

5. Managing Cookies

You can manage or disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Disabling our session cookie makes it impossible to sign in. Public pages, including the documentation, work fine without it.

Signing out invalidates the session and clears the cookie.

6. Legal Basis (GDPR & TDDDG)

Under the GDPR and §25 of the German TDDDG, we may store or access information on your device only if it is strictly necessary to provide the service you requested, or you have given your prior consent.

Everything in Section 3 falls under the first case: the session cookie is needed to sign you in, and the language cookie, theme value and widget storage keep what you chose or typed yourself. The legal basis for the associated processing is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR — necessary to perform the service. We rely on no consent-based storage at all, so there is nothing for you to withdraw.

7. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in technology, law, or our cookie usage. The "Last Updated" date at the top always indicates the most recent version.
